[Movies] George Clooney Could Take Over The Jack Ryan Role
Posted by Ashish on 07.07.2009

George Clooney has apparently expressed interest in playing Jack Ryan if Paramount attempts to continue the Tom Clancy series. With the Ocean's franchise now seemingly over, and Clooney pushing 50, he apparently wants to be part of a stable commercial franchise.

Actors like Ryan Gosling, Aaron Eckhart, James Franco, and even Harrison Ford have been linked to the Jack Ryan role over the past few years.

The last report on another Jack Ryan film came in December when the Hollywood Reporter claimed that the next film would be an origin-story about Ryan and not anything derived from a Clancy novel. Obviously casting Clooney in the role of Ryan would seem to run counter to an origin story.

We'll see what happens.

Yes, because we've seen the wonders Clooney manages when put into established roles.

Ryan Gosling , Aaron Eckhart and James Franco ?

WTF ? WHEN ? !!

I don't recall that !

I do recall Alec Baldwin(red October )

I do recall Ben Affleck
(sum of all fears)

To Jack Ryan, not that you'll probably read this but it says those guys were all "linked to the Jack Ryan". It doesn't mean they played Jack Ryan, just that they were rumoured to play him in a new movie. And on your list you forgot Harrison Ford, the only guy to play the role twice, namely in Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games.

He's too old for this role unless its a story from the later books.

Surely with all with all the remakes and reboots going on, this is a series of stories that should be made properly with one actor doing a few of the movies.

These books have generally suffered when turned into films. Red October was great, Patriot Games was fine but the rest were poor.

Who could play Ryan? How about Jason O'Mara

Clooney seems too cynical to play Jack Ryan

Why not Ben Affleck again? Sum of All Fears was surprisingly good and he made a convincing Jack Ryan. Last time I checked to that movie was fairly successful so why do you need another new actor?

An Origin Story? WTF? Hunt for Red October was his origin story. He was a non field agent who was forced to do the job because he knew the most about the subject and THEN BECAME an action hero. The movie version of Sum of All Fears completely crapped on HfRO which is still the best in the series.

Dude what the hell movie did you see? The movie was horrid and the only one of the series that I will never watch again. It had nothing to do with the book and made little sense whatsoever.
